PART A
List of Problems
Decision Matrix
Problem Statement
Gingivitis affects over 50% of Americans and is preventable by means of flossing and proper dental care, practices that are not commonly or effectively done. With around 40% of Americans lacking dental insurance in 2012, many rely on their personal care for their oral health.
Justification
Market Survey
We found that people know they should be flossing once a day, but still don't. We also found that people are satisfied with their toothbrush, but would benefit from a toothbrush that dispensed floss.
We also asked people how often they replace their toothbrush and how often they think they should replace their toothbrush. The answers were short answer and varied from person to person. Most don't replace their toothbrush as often as they think they should.

Summary
Part A was all about deciding on a problem and beginning to envision a solution. We used some of our own ideas and other ideas from the class that we though were an issue in a decision matrix to decide on the best possible project. We decided on coming up with a solution that aids with the processes of dental hygiene. We discovered through research, both by articles and our market survey, that not everyone is flossing regularly or disposing of their toothbrush at the appropriate time. Our plan for the project is to make a toothbrush that houses and dispenses 3 months worth of floss in the handle. When the floss runs out, the user knows when to replace their toothbrush. Our project is designed to promote oral hygiene for everyone that uses it.
